Student Internships
The Open Science (Otevřená věda) initiative of the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) is the flagship of the Academy’s cooperation with younger generations. Since 2005, we have been involving talented high school students in hands-on experience and research at the Czech Academy of Sciences in the form of research internships. Our goal is to enable talented students interested in science and research to gain valuable experience in scientific practice, motivate them to pursue higher education, and guide them towards choosing a career in research.
By means of a database located on the official website (Czech only, several internship offers are in English), the Open Science project offers internship opportunities spanning a wide range of topics in the natural sciences, engineering, humanities, and social sciences. The internships cover a wide variety of disciplines: biology, chemistry, physics, geology, ecology, technology, IT, medical sciences, history, philology, philosophy, law, art history, chemical technology, biophysics, astronomy, and more.
Student research internships in Czech and English are held under the guidance of Czech researchers and researchers from abroad at various CAS institutes throughout the Czech Republic. The internships for high school students are year-long. They take place from January to November.
In 2026, 255 high school students from all over the Czech Republic were given the opportunity to get hands-on experience in research. They participate in 150 research internships, which take place under the expert guidance of 131 researchers at 37 CAS institutes.
The project of the Czech Academy of Sciences, financially supported by The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.
